Yes, there is an option to hide your status from certain contacts if you feel like it, but there is no direct option saying hide contacts. But that doesn’t mean you can’t do it. There is a way out to achieve the desired result.
You can use the “Archive” feature of WhatsApp to hide selected contacts from your Chat List. You need to enable the feature at first to enjoy its benefits. This process is an inherent feature of WhatsApp and can be used as it is both on Android and iPhone.
How to Hide Contacts on WhatsApp
1. Archive Contact on iPhone
- Open WhatsApp Messenger on your device.
- Now tap on the “Chats” option.
- Tap on the selected contact chat you want to hide.
- Swipe the chat head to the left.
You have successfully archived that particular contact from WhatsApp. No need to think that you can never get this contact back. You can access this archived contact whenever you feel like it, from the folder named “Archived Chats”.
If you are thinking where can I find this folder? The answer is, you just have to swipe down through your WhatsApp Chats page to access this Archived Chats folder. Here you can easily get all your hidden WhatsApp contacts list.
2. Archive Chat on Android
- Open WhatsApp Messenger on your device.
- Now tap on the conversation of the contact you want to hide.
- Select and tap on the chat and the conversation will be highlighted.
- Now you can see the appearance of a checkmark just next to the chat highlighted.
- Tap on the “Archive” option. The word Archive will not be written here.
- In android, the Archive is denoted by an icon of a box with an arrow in it that faces downward. This icon is supposed to appear on the top right corner of your screen.
After you have successfully archived the contact, the particular chat will no longer appear on your chat list. Similar to iPhone, you can always access the hidden contacts from the folder named “Archived Chats” for which you will have to swipe down through your WhatsApp Chats Page.
How to Unarchive the Chat?
Here are the steps to follow if you want to unarchive the chat that means unhide a contact from WhatsApp:
- Open WhatsApp on your device.
- Scroll down through the chat list page and go to the bottom.
- You will come across an option at the bottom named “Archived”.
- Once you tap on this option, you shall be able to see the archived chats.
- Now tap over the chat you want to unarchive and long press.
- At the top right corner, there will appear an option labeled as “Unarchive Chat”.
- Tap on that option and you are done with it.
