How to Disable Read Receipts for WhatsApp Group

Whatsaap introduced the renowned double “tick” function in 2014. This feature allows you to determine whether or not a message has been read by the intended recipient(s). The blue tick will display as soon as your message is delivered and read by the target recipient. When it comes to group chat, things are a little different. If you’re using an iPhone or Android phone and want to know who has read your Whatsapp-Group message, when everyone in your group has read the message, the blue ticks will display.

Though, in individual messaging on Whatsapp, it’s much easier to tell if a message has been received and read than in group messaging, where it’s a little more difficult to tell who has read or skipped your message. But the new feature from Whatsapp has now made it easy to find who has read your message by clicking on the info button which appears when you long hold the send a message and you will be able to see three dots on the right side and by clicking that you will see an option on Info by clicking that you will able to brief who has read your message, who received your message and how haven’t received your message.

Any message sent over Whatsapp will have the message information shown on your phone’s screen. It will show you all the information about your message, such as when it was delivered, when it was read, and even when it was played by the target recipient.

The steps to see your screen message information are as follows:

Step 1: Open a chat with a group contact or contacts.

Step 2: To access the message information, tap and hold your message.

Step 3: Press the I or “info” buttons. Manually tapping on the “Menu button” to acquire the entire information is another option.

The following message will most likely appear on your screen:

  • If your message was successfully delivered to your contacted recipient but has yet to be seen or read, it will be marked as delivered.
  • Read/Seen – if the recipient has read the message or viewed the audio file, images, or videos. If the audio file has been seen but not yet played by the recipient, it will show “seen” on a voice message.
  • If the audio file/voice message has been played, it is marked as played.

However, you might have tried to use this read receipts feature in the WhatsApp group too. But we would like to inform you that, if you will enable the read receipts feature on your Whatsapp then also this read receipts feature will not work in the Whatsapp group or voice messages. You can only use this feature using personal messaging on Whatsapp. Let us discuss how to enable the read receipts to feature on your Whatsapp application.

You can disable the “Read Receipts” option if you are no longer interested in knowing if your message has been read. You won’t be able to view the “read receipts” from your receivers if you turn it off.

Note that this will not stop read receipts from appearing in group chats or voice messages.

The following are the procedures to disable “Read Receipts” on Android:

  • First, open the Whatsapp application on your mobile.
  • Tab on three dots available on the right side at the top.
  • Select option setting from the option list.
  • Now select account and tab to privacy option available in it.
  • Untick the Read Receipts option on the privacy tab.

For iPhone:

Step 1: Open the Whatsapp app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Select the Setting tab by tapping or clicking on it. The Account tab, then Privacy, should be tapped or clicked.

Step 3: Disable the Read Receipts option by turning off the switch next to it.

Now by turning off the read receipts option from your Whatsapp application the individual who will be sent you a message will not able to know whether the message has been read or not because now the blue tick will not appear to him/her when you read the message. As it has been disabled. Remember by turning off the read receipt option you too will not be able to know whether the receiver has read your message or not.

By turning on the read Receipts function on Whatsapp, you can track your sent message by following things. A single tick will appear in the bottom-right corner of your Whatsapp message box/bubble if your message was successfully sent. When it’s received, you’ll notice two grey ticks, which will automatically convert into two blue ticks once it’s been read.
